More than a week after Nintendo’s debut social network app launched in Japan, Nintendo announced today that Miitomo is releasing this Thursday, March 31, in the United States.

Miitomo allows users to create their own Mii by taking a picture of themselves with their smartphone’s front camera. Syncing your Facebook and Twitter will allow your friends with Miitomo to show up in the app. An in game currency of coins can be earned (or bought with real money) to be used to purchase clothes and accessories for Miis. Coins can also be used to play Miitomo Drop (a game much like Plinko from The Price is Right) where rare prizes can be won.
Anyone preregisters early at Miitomo.com will earn My Nintendo Platinum Points.
