Gears of War will be all revved up on the silver screen
During Xbox’s official Gears of War 4: Live launch event, there was plenty of gameplay, interviews and giveaways. One of the bigger surprises came with the official announcement of a Gears of War motion picture. A big screen adaptation of the series has been rumored for years, but Universal Pictures is officially moving forward with production of the film.

Rod Fergusson, the studio head at Gears of War 4 developer The Coalition, sat down with Variety to give his thoughts on making the jump to cinema. “As a way to support the franchise the next logical step was to make the movie,” he said, “We’d done comics and novels in the past but the opportunity to work with Universal to bring the movie to life was perfect.”
Fergusson went on to say that in order to make a good video game movie with Gears of War, he plans on appealing to a broader audience of movie goers, not just gamers. The film is still in the very early stages of production, so until then, fans can hold themselves over with Gears of War 4, which launches on Xbox One and Windows PC October 11.
